Some popular books on homeopathy and webpages of its enthusiasts state that Hahnemann was inspired by alchemical or Paracelsian ideas when devising his system of medicine. I cannot see any obvious connection -- but perhaps there is any serious (scholarly) publication that traces such a link?

I haven't had a chance to look at this article too closely, but it might be a useful starting-point:

http://www.homeoint.org/morrell/articles/pm_alchem.htm

..and another Morrell article here, on the Paracelsian aspect this time:

Thank you, Paul. Both articles seem to stretch evidence in order to prove some connection to Paracelsus. But this is helpful, as probably had there been more evidence, Morrell would have known about it.

The concepts of "similarity" in the Paracelsian doctrine of signatures and in homeopathy certainly do not represent the same idea.

Yes, a quick Google reveals a lot of 'Mind, Body & Spirit' type articles but nothing very scholarly.

There is a connection between the alchemist Boettger, the 'discoverer' of porcelain, and the Hahnemann family:

This book, which I assume is reasonably scholarly, may be worth investigating, if only for the bibliography:

Thanks again, Paul. Yes, I noticed the book by Danciger and it seems indeed to be the closest to scholarly of all the proponents of the idea. But as it was used by Morrell I do not expect any fundamental evidence that would not be noticed by him. Still, as it is quite cheap on Abebooks, I ordered a copy.

The link to Boettger is nice!
